Society of Doctors in Law

The Society of Doctors in Law was founded in 1991. It provides a forum for those concerned with both medicine and law. Full membership is open to those with a professional qualification in both medicine and law. Associate membership is open to those with a professional qualification in either medicine or law who either have some other qualification in the second discipline or are actively studying it. The Society exists for the professional and educational benefit of members; it aims to promote excellence in all aspects of medical law and to encourage the exchange of views on the development of medical law and ethics. It organises regular dinner meetings; there is usually a distinguished speaker with opportunity for discussion. Its members include academics, coroners, medical practitioners, solicitors and barristers. The professional interests of members include medical liability, pharmaceutical law, coronership, ethics, forensic medicine and pathology, health service law and funding of litigation. The Society is pleased to advise those trained in one professional discipline as to how they may train in the other. It may be able to offer advice on careers through its members. It welcomes inquiries from intending members. Further information about the Society and its activities can be obtained from:
